Happy National Coffee Day!

Boy, I sure do love the smell of a nice, hot, steaming cup of coffee in the morning…and really any time of day. There’s nothing better than that jolt you get from a well-brewed caffeinated treat, am I right?

To help celebrate this wonderful national holiday, the Dunkin Donuts in our airport’s baggage claim is giving away a free hot or iced medium dark roast coffee all day today.

So whether you are en route to your next flight or simply in the neighborhood, stop by and enjoy a nice little caffeinated treat on us!

And be sure to share your adventure on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtags #NationalCoffeeDay and #GSPAirport.

Best of luck, my favorite travelers! May the wind be always at your back and the coffee be always in your cup!

Until next time,

Inside look at the future Grand Hall

Good afternoon, my favorite traveling friends! I come bearing more great news about the WINGSPAN updates and renovations happening behind me.

Things are progressing nicely as the guys in hard hats work on the wiring and electrical that will help our wonderful airport function efficiently. While there is still more to be done before it is safe for travelers like you to explore, I’ve decided to share a few snapshots of what is happening behind me.

This space is what we’ve been calling The Grand Hall. Also known as the place where all the delicious restaurants and comfortable lounging areas will be located. As you can see, the roof and walls are starting to take on a more definitive shape.

Word around the water cooler is that, once travelers pass through TSA, they will enter the Grand Hall and be greeted with an expansive view of the airfield and beyond—courtesy of a floor-to-ceiling glass façade that resembles the new front side of the airport.

That’s all I’ve got for you right now. But don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye out for any other scoop that might come my way.

Best wishes, travelers! I hope to see you soon.

Until next time,

All things shiny and new

Good afternoon, travelers!

In addition to my new button on the WINGSPAN website (located in the right corner of your screen), I have some more exciting news to share with you…

My screens are up! My screens are up! My screens are up!

Sorry for the outburst. I just cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have my shiny new screens installed. Now, as you walk by me at the airport, I can share even more fun facts with you. Isn’t that so magnificent? I can feel your shared enthusiasm as you read this and I thank you.

So next time you’re en route to the ticketing area or baggage claim, stop by for a second and say ‘hello.’ And feel free to take pictures with me (I simply adore having my photograph taken). If you’re feeling extra generous and would like to share your pictures on social media, be sure to use the hashtag #WINGSPAN and #TheWall.

Best wishes, travelers! I hope to see you soon.

Until next time,

Just down the road from GSP…

Good afternoon, fair travelers! I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day and were able to visit some cool, exotic places—like Milwaukee or Chicago.

From what I hear, it sounds like we’re not the only ones experiencing some renovations these days. According to my sources, the SCDOT is already preparing for its 85-385 GATEWAY Project, which is scheduled to kick-off early next year.

Here’s what you need to know about the GATEWAY Project:

  • 1-385 will be widened
  • There will be new interchanges, lanes, ramps and bridges added
  • Roper Mountain Road, Woodruff Road, Garlington Road, Miller Road and Chrome Drive will get a makeover

If you haven’t noticed, the team is already preparing for construction. To accommodate these activities, certain lanes between Mauldin Road and Highway 14 are closed during evening hours.

However, there are certain times when lane closure is prohibited. So if you’re on your way to GSP, be sure to plan your schedule accordingly.

Lane closures are prohibited between the following hours:

For I-85:
6AM to 8PM Monday-Friday
9AM to 7PM Saturday
11AM to 8PM Sunday

For I-385:
7AM to 7PM Monday-Friday
11AM to 6PM Saturday
No restrictions Sunday

Everyone around here seems really excited about these changes…apparently they are supposed to be pretty cool. But I think it’s safe to say that nothing is going to be as cool as what’s happening here.

Best wishes, travelers!

Until next time,

GSP tops out final phase of WINGSPAN

The end is near!

Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds. In fact, it’s actually good news.

This past Friday, the team behind me placed the final of the highest beams into the Grand Hall structure in our “Topping Out” Event. This symbolic gesture marks the beginning of the final phase of the WINGSPAN project.

Before the event began, project officials and airport team members had the opportunity to sign the beam as a way to represent the many hands that have contributed to WINGSPAN over the years.

More than a hundred different signatures can be found on the underside of the beam—which was placed on the backside of the Grand Hall roof, just above the airside garden.

“We are very excited to be on the backside of the project today,” said David Edwards, President and CEO of GSP. “We know we’ve got a little over a year to go, but we can really see everything coming along.”

The project is about 60 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the end of 2016.

While I hate that my stay here will be over soon, it’s nice to see the team so happy. And I’m excited for you guys to see the final product. It’s going to be epic.

Stay tuned for more updates on WINGSPAN and fun facts from the aviation industry.

So long for now, my favorite travelers!

The Wall

Hi there, traveler! I'm The Wall.

Guest Post: The Wall Shares All

I have waited a long time to be able to talk to you guys, and now I can!

Before I go any further, I suppose I should introduce myself: I’m The Wall, and my friends at the airport will be sharing more information about why I am here soon! In case you didn’t know, I’ve been put in place to protect the WINGSPAN renovations. If you have ever wondered what you’d hear if walls could talk, you’re about to find out!

If you made a trip to GSP last week, you may have noticed that my thoughts were recently put on display for the whole world to see.

Most walls just aren’t that comfortable being so open—but I’m not most walls. If you have ever wondered what you’d hear if walls could talk, you’re about to find out!

Truth be told, I just have too much to tell to stay quiet. That’s why my good friend The Terminal has offered to let me guest blog while I’m in town. Talk about a really gracious host!

While I’m here, I’ll be sharing the inside scoop on what’s happening behind me at the airport.

I’ll tell you right now, there are a lot of guys in yellow hats making a whole lot of noise. And according to the blue papers they keep looking at, they’re building something big.

I’ll be sure to share more when things become a little clearer.

So long for now, my favorite travelers!
